Rationale:
This course is an exploration of visual media and art. The
focus is to better understand the language of art and the power it has on our
modern society.

Goals:
- Learn
the basic elements and principals of artistic composition.
- Be
creative, open-minded and self-motivating after experiencing this course.
- Be more
willing to express his/her ideas articulately and openly.
- The
student will experience art by making works, viewing art works and
visiting the art galleries.
Evaluation:
The evaluation or grading procedure will be based on the
following (203 points total):
- Sketchbook
- 8.5 x 11 sketchbook – Blank pages no lines – 25 points (12.5% of
your grade)
- Take
it everywhere
- Document
ideas you have
- Draw
images that mean something or write something
- Use
it to take notes in class and doodle
- PARTICIPATION is attendance. You
cannot participate if you are not present! – 53 points (26% of your grade)
- 3
points – 1 question and 1 observation on each of 11 lectures (33 total)
- 5
points – 1 question and 1 observation on 4 videos (20 total)
- 5
applied art assignments – 100 points (49% of your grade)
- Photography
– 20pts
- Painting
– 20 points
- Mixed
media – 20 points
- Three
dimensional – 20 points
- Portrait
– 20 points
- Final
Exam – Answer these three questions in a thoughtful, clear and
insightful manner. One paragraph on each question, minimum – 25 points (12.5%
of your grade)
